Experience

Massaro Corporation has provided general construction services to an array of industries in the Pittsburgh and surrounding regions since 1967. We value and understand the importance of working as a team with the owner and architect to complete a successful project. This is best represented by the fact that 80% of our work is negotiated. In addition, nearly 60% of our business comes from repeat clients.

Higher Education

Campuses throughout the United States are continually upgrading and expanding their facilities to meet the demands of an increasing student population, new technology and ongoing maintenance in aging buildings. Massaro Corporation is proud to be a leader in the Higher Education construction market segment. We are currently on-site at 10 major universities and have completed over 100 university projects in western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

Our Higher Education projects include extensive MEP upgrades, new construction, renovations and additions to various building types in major universities. We have successfully completed work in science and lab rooms, theater arts buildings, dormitories, student unions, athletic facilities and football fields, cafeterias and food services, as well as common areas and administration offices.

Because of our many years of experience working in the Higher Education environment, we understand the importance of meeting the schedule and deadlines for the school year calendar. We also understand the need to work in and around active buildings and campuses where safety is our number one priority and disruptions must be kept to a minimum

K-12 Marketplace

Massaro Corporation has experience in the K-12 marketplace as both a general trades prime contractor and as an Agency Construction Manager. Beginning in the late 1970’s and through the 1990’s Massaro built several projects for public school districts including Shaler Area High School, Bethel Park High School, Dorseyville Middle School (Fox Chapel) and North Hills High School gymnasium expansion.

More recently we have provided full service Agency Construction Management for Woodland Hills, Bethel Park and Blackhawk School Districts on projects that will total over $110 million. We have provided limited Agency Construction Management services (on-site technical adviser) to Chartiers Valley School District. We have also provided, on an as needed basis, preconstruction services to Peters Township, Mt Lebanon and the Pittsburgh Public School Districts. These preconstruction services include estimating, value engineering constructability reviews, and the analysis of phasing plans and schedules.

Healthcare

Over the years Massaro has completed over sixty-seven (67) healthcare projects. The projects we have worked on range from relatively small specialized additions, like the John P. Murtha Cancer Center Linear Acceleration Addition and Renovation in Johnstown, to larger projects, such as the UPCI Hillman Cancer Center, the largest cancer research center in the world.

Massaro has extensive experience working with owners and architects to ensure all healthcare work that is done is of the highest standard. We understand the importance of creating a sterile working environment for hospitals and healthcare facilities. We also understand the need to work in occupied buildings and on very active campuses in a manner that allows the day-to-day activities to continue while still placing construction work in a productive and cost efficient method.

Religious/Non-Profit Experience

Massaro has built over forty-six (46) projects for nonprofit organizations. We believe in supporting the community and fostering the growth of charitable organizations. It is our commitment to the community, and our understanding of the importance of non-profits, that gives us an informed perspective to the needs of the community as a whole.

Our extensive experience working with the community gives us a better understanding of the needs of a charitable institution. We perform our work with respect and understanding the needs of the communities we serve. We understand the importance of working with the community when building non-profit facilities.

We understand that it is the donations to the community that allows for a non-profit to expand and build. It is this awareness that allows us to handle these funds like they are our own.

Office Experience

Massaro has experience as both the general contractor and construction manager for Class “A” office buildings, as well as being a building owner and landlord for approximately 600,000 square feet. As a building owner and landlord, Massaro understands and provides tenant fit-out services to tenants who expect quality.

Our expertise in Class “A” office encompasses a broad range of high profile buildings in the Pittsburgh region and the surrounding areas. Recently, Massaro completed construction on the UPMC Magee Womens Research Institute located in Oakland. This 70,000 square foot expansion of the existing research facility included new lab space for fertility research, associated support facilities and new offices.

Another project completed in 2008, is the Lamar Advertising Service and Training Centers in Green Tree. This one-story, 47,700 square foot structure includes executive offices, a lunchroom, a boardroom and a production area. Adjacent to the office environment is the fabrication facility, which includes a welding room, a maintenance center and a 10-bay garage. In collaboration with Massaro Corporation and the architect, Lamar isĀ  pursuing LEED certification.

Urban Experience

We have worked extensively in many of the City’s neighborhoods completing projects for the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC, Winchester Thurston, Point Park Univeristy, as well as the worship centers we have built for parishes throughout the city and South Western Pennsylvania. Our familiarity with dense urban areas allows us to utilize our expertise with planning of parking, operating in an active urban site, and site logistics to manage and direct successful construction projects.

Having worked in the community, Massaro is aware of their needs. We understand the importance of issues such as noise, traffic and parking near a construction site to the residents and businesses of Pittsburgh, and we do our best to accommodate the their needs. Safety is also a large concern to those who live and work near the site. Massaro takes into account all possible safety concerns in and around our job sites to ensure proper safety measures have been taken to prevent any incident.
