Student Housing Construction Continues at IUP
July 2008 - Construction has commenced on Phase III of the multi-phased Residential Revival project at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The first phase began in May of 2006 with plans to revolutionize the way students live and learn at the university. Massaro Corporation was named general contractor in 2006 and has been awarded subsequent contracts for Phases II, III and IV.
Phase III will add an additional 355,600 square feet of residence hall space throughout two new buildings. These five-story buildings will complement the 706,000 square feet of student housing recently completed in Phases I and II. The five buildings that make up Phase I and II are also known as the Suites on Grant, Susan Snell Delaney Hall, Suites on Maple East, Suites on Maple West and Suites on Maple Northern.
Phase III includes the demolition of two dated dormitories and one apartment-style housing complex to make way for the 1,054 bed, stick frame student housing units. Phase III housing will be known as Suites on Pratt and Sutton Suites. Preconstruction services have begun on Phase IV. WTW Architects designed this multi-phased project. The student housing environment is identified as IUP’s Living-Learning Communities with the following amenities created to encourage and facilitate student growth.
- Extend student learning beyond the classroom and into their suites and residence halls.
- Allow residents to participate in learning activities and experiences specially themed to their academic college, major, or area of interest.
- Promote informal interaction and collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Provide a supportive living environment that encourages students to connect with others who share a similar academic program or interest area.
- Allow easy access to campus facilities, as they are often in close proximity to classes and offices related to the student’s program of study or interest area.
