Professional Days and Community Outreach

June 2009 - On May 22 and 27, Massaro Corporation opened its doors to high school students from all over the city for Professional Days. On the 22nd, fifteen students from the Urban Youth Action program, learned not only about the building trades, but the educational and professional backgrounds of the Massaro staff.
The students met with Joseph Massaro III, president and COO, and had the opportunity to interact with employees who work in a variety of disciplines in the construction industry. A representative from business development, human resources, estimating, real estate, operations and the architecture departments presented a brief summary of what each of their jobs entail, and what type of education is required to perform these jobs.

After the presentations and lunch, the students visited job sites and had an opportunity to talk with the field staff. On May 27, students from CLAAY - Career Literacy for All American Youth - were welcomed for the second Professional Day of the month. Massaro has made a commitment to serve the communities in which we work, and to connect youth to careers in construction. We are thankful for the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with educators and youth organizations in this capacity.

On April 30, the project team for the new Kaufmann Auditorium at the Hill House Association held a meeting for local minority and women subcontractors. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce people to Massaro, the bid and selection process and upcoming projects in the Hill District and the region. The team, Ryan Haught, Arthur Sheffield, Jason Sigal, Brad Brock, George Germany, Crystal Schafer, Steven Massaro, Hilary Brown and Rob Chambers, presented the information and were available for questions. The event was well attended and additional meetings at the Hill House Association will be scheduled as the project start dates grow closer.
