Josh Gibson and Massaro Corporation Charity Softball Game
May 2010 – On May 1, Massaro Corporation partnered with the Josh Gibson Foundation for the first annual Josh Gibson and Massaro Corporation Charity Softball Game. Shelton Masonry, Hill House Association, Urban Settlement and Massaro Corporation, as well as WPXI’s Mark Barash, all participated in the tournament held at the newly renovated Josh Gibson field in the Hill District of Pittsburgh. WTAE Action news came and filmed the game and Sean Gibson served as the announcer. Friends of the community, including Andrew Stockey, attended the event which welcomed children with crafts and activities, caricatures and face painting for the afternoon which was donated by Massaro Corporation. It was a great day for the Hill District community and the Josh Gibson Foundation and everyone is looking forward to next year.
The event raised $6,500 through the support of local groups and businesses participating or buying a banner. All of the proceeds benefited the Josh Gibson Foundation, a private non-profit organization based in Pittsburgh that provides educational and motivational programming to families and youth to encourage education and responsibility as the means of improving oneself. The foundation offers after-school tutoring to inner-city youth and since 2002 has provided more than $20,000 in college scholarships. The Josh Gibson Baseball Academy is associated with Pony Baseball, Minor League Baseball’s Long Ball Program and the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation.
